My guest on the IT@Cork members podcasts today is Fergal Brosnan – Director of Berkley Recruitment. Fergal was recommended to me as an interviewee by Catherine Wall and I have to admit having reservations about interviewing someone from a recruitment company. I still harbour prejudices from the dot-bomb days against recruitment agencies, I guess!!!
Fergal was a fascinating interviewee, I have to say – Catherine was spot-on there. In the interview he talks about how he set up Berkley in Cork (he was looking for a job and couldn’t find a good recruitment agency to get a job from so …), IT recruitment trends and how membership pf IT@Cork benefits Berkley.
Here are a list of the questions I asked Fergal in the course of the interview and the times in the interview at which I asked them (in case you wish to fast forward to a particular question):
Who is Fergal Brosnan – what is your background and how did you get to be a director of Berkley Recruitment? – 0:14
Is the Cork office of Berkely mainly focussed on IT? – 6:13
Is recruitment the main service you provide your clients or do you provide other services as well? – 8:24
Do Berkley provide consulting services – do you write white papers on the state of the employment sector, for example? – 12:20
Do you have similar numbers for IT graduates? – 14:14
Is the uptake of places in IT (in colleges) starting to increase again? – 15:38
Talk a bit about the recruitment industry in Ireland and where Berkley are within that industry? – 17:09
And in terms of size within the Irish recruitment industry, where are you? – 20:33
How has online recruitment with the likes of Monster.ie affected the Berkley and the recruitment industry in general? – 23:47
What are the biggest threats you see facing Berkley in the coming years? – 26:57
And finally, Why are Berkley members of IT@Cork? What do you get out of that? – 29:01
